Babble Tea Set

Creating a process driven ritual for the nontraditional and reinterpreting tea for GenZ.
My fascination with tea began during the cold winter months when I discovered its surprising ability to keep me warm. Over time, I realized that tea also serves as a wonderful foundation for building social rituals and habits. This project emerged from the idea of creating a platform for others to develop their own social rituals, specifically, an artifact or object that could stimulate and integrate itself into shared, ritualistic behaviors.
In our fast-paced lives, filled with clutter and noise, our social experiences are often disrupted. Tea became a way for me to cut through that noise, offering a ritualistic pause that encouraged connection. This realization sparked my interest in designing something that could bring people together in an uninterrupted, shared experience. The idea of a vessel or artifact that facilitates these moments of connection evolved into the creation of the "Babble" tea set.
The Babble tea set is crafted to bring two people together over a cup of tea, offering more than just a functional object; it serves as a platform for creating personal social rituals. By providing a space for uninterrupted conversation and shared experience, the set encourages participants to slow down and engage meaningfully with one another. The design itself interweaves the symbolism and processes of tea-making, social interaction, and materiality. The Babble tea set allows users to create their own experiences and traditions, built around moments of connection that tea naturally fosters.
Additionally, the methodology behind its design mirrors the ritual of tea-making itself. The visible process embodied in the final product tells a story of how it was made, inviting users to appreciate the duality of the experience. This intentional focus on process, both in making the object and in the act of using it, creates a parallel between the creation of the set and the careful preparation of tea. Ultimately, this project is a reflection of my personal journey with tea as a medium for fostering connection, and it explores how similar qualities can be nurtured in different contexts through thoughtful design.
